Since Sprint got magical in New York a while back, I've been itching to get my hands on a Kyocera Echo. Look, we know many of you scoff at the Echo, but that's not fair unless you've had a bit of time with it.  I'm a gadget nut.  I'm a smartphone nut.  I'm an Android nut.  I want to check out all the latest Android phones, but show me something unique and I'm there.  The Echo -- which is available today for $199 after contract and $100 rebate -- fits that bill with its two screen setup, complete with applications that can take advantage of them.  Hit the break for some video, some pictures, and some Jerry talking about the Echo.

Google Talk Guru answers questions via your IM app

Bots -- like the kind which automate IRC rooms and Google Wave -- are a good thing to know about. There are plenty of useful bots worth knowing about, too, including the Google Talk Guru.

Just add guru@googlelabs.com to your GTalk buddies, and you can start firing off questions. Lifehacker suggests that the same types of queries supported by Google SMS will work, though we didn't have any luck getting a response out of the Guru with phrases like "score detroit red wings" or "sushi R3N 1Y1."

Still, Guru does answer a good variety of questions and it works right within your favorite IM app. It's well worth adding to your friend list, especially for getting answers on the go on your mobile device of choice.

Google adds opt-out to ad targeting in Market

All of you privacy fiends out there will appreciate this one. In the Android Market's latest update, Google has added the option to remove yourself from targeted ads.

It's a small gesture, but definitely worth taking a look at, especially if you're one who values privacy. I never click on AdMob ads (unless by accident), but it's nice to be able to control your experience a bit more. This isn't getting rid of all ads but, rather, "interest-based ads" that are targeted specifically for you.

We can't do much about your creepy browsing habits. But at least this way, when the fedora-clad men all come to our doors, they won't know I prefer the Xoom to the Galaxy Tab. Thanks, Chris!

In-app payment support arrives on Android

Right on cue, Google has launched in-app payment support for Android applications. Developer testing began last week, and now many popular apps -- like the ones pictured above -- can begin charging users for add-on functionality, content, or whatever the heck else they feel is worthy of additional bits of your pocket change. If you were wondering, Google will take the same 30% cut that Apple takes from in-app purchases.

At last we can buy individual issues in Comics with minimal fuss!
