Google adds 35 more Web fonts to Blogger

Web fonts have been available to Blogger users since late last year, when Google introduced 32 ready-to-use typefaces to spice up your blog's design. Now, Google has more than doubled that number -- bringing the total to a whopping 77 fonts, all of which render nicely in just about any Web browser. No, they don't work in IE6.

You'll find the new fonts in the Blogger Template Designer behind the advanced tab. Choose a font, and Blogger will give you a preview to help you decide whether or not you want to make the switch. The full list of available fonts is posted here, and you can also browse them in the Google Font Directory.

Internet Explorer 9 to bolster security with ActiveX content filter

Sure, you can wade through Internet Explorer 8's security settings and flip a number of radio buttons to change ActiveX permissions in its many zones, but it's kind of a pain in the butt. It's also not also flexible a system as it could be -- but Microsoft appears ready to change all that in Internet Explorer 9.

Over at WinRumors, Tom Warren has received information that IE9 will include an improved ActiveX filtering mechanism. As you can see in his screenshot, both ActiveX filtering and IE9's new Tracking Protection feature will be available via the browser's Information Bar -- making it easier to block or allow controls. Rogue ActiveX controls have been a common attack vector against Internet Explorer, so it's good to see Microsoft doing its part to help bolster the browser's defenses.

Play videos and music stored on your Windows 7 computer on a connected TV

Windows 7 makes a number of networking tasks a whole lot easier to tackle -- one of which is sharing the music, movies, and photos stored on your computer with today's network-ready TVs. If your fancy new flatscreen can connect to your wired or wireless network, it can probably also play your Windows 7 media.

To set things up, hit the Windows key and type streaming in the search box. Wait for Media streaming options to appear, then press enter. When the options window appears, look for your TV in the devices list. If the button to the right does not read "allowed," click blocked and change it. As long as your TV supports DLNA, that's all there is to it -- now it's just a matter of finding the right menu with your remote so you can start enjoying your videos!

You even have the option of limiting access to content. Only want videos you've rated 3 stars or better to be available on your living room TV? Don't want your photos displayed there? No problem. Just click the customize... link and check or uncheck a few boxes.

If you want a little more background on Windows 7's media streaming features, check out this post from Microsoft.
